Fun Stories
I tried fixing it myself!
Many of the used machines I encounter have a particular un-charming feature; the unfortunate condition of the DIY repair.
I picked up a Saeco Talea, its know to be a leaky machine, so I usually expect a drip or two, and the usual issues of a machine that isnt maintained properly. Furthermore, the previous owner described it as needing a grinder motor.
When I opened the machine up, I found that the front cover came off way way to easily, and I noticed that every single mounting tab was torn off. At this point I know the machine isnt saleable, I don't sell anything broken. I sighed and started moving on (I could still use the machine for my office or something)
Next, the grinder (in its entirety) is ruined. I replace it
Next, the grinder conveyor is broken and glued back together in a way that defeats it completely. Coffee grounds are everywhere and the machine needs disassembly (I guess I wont use it at the office)
Next, there is a terrible leak that has ruined several electrical components, there is corrosion everywhere
Next, the water tank top is missing (yes you actually need this)
Next. improper disassembly has cracked parts off the case and chassis
Here is the moral of the story:
#1 the case comes apart, you just be careful and follow the service manual
#2 the conveyor is a part that is commonly broken, thankfully its only 7 dollars, just replace it, you cant make a new one out of glue
#3 every part is needed there are no bits that are "extras" and no screws that are "optional"
#4 there is something or some things wrong with every every machine I have ever worked on, expect it.
